Arbonet II Payload Objectives

Saturday, March 10th, 2007, 1:52 pm [General]

The objective for this flight is to perfect the implementation of the basic payloads that were flown on ARBONET-1. The payloads we will fly on this flight are:Primary Payloads
  • Homing Beacon
  • APRS
  • Crossband Repeater
Secondary Payloads
  • Digital Camera
  • Balloon Burst Video

Individual payloads are to be completed and tested for basic functionality (including thermal testing) by the weekend of April 14th. This is so that a “stack” test of all of the payloads can take place on that weekend to identify any RFI related issues that exist between the individual packages when placed into flight configuration. The exact location for the stack test is still TBD. By conducting the stack text on this weekend, we will have roughly two weeks to address any issues that we identify and aren’t able to resolve during the stack test itself.

K5NOT is taking the development of an ARBONET dedicated web site (you are viewing it! :) packaging of the Beacon Payload, acquiring and assembling the battery power, as well as payload antenna fabrication on as action items.

W5BL is in the process of fabrication the APRS and Cross band repeater payloads with technical support from N5IUF.

Members of the Lockheed, Irving and Red River Valley Amateur Radio Clubs have indicated a willingness to support this flight and we welcome their participation.

Arbonet II Call for Volunteers

Saturday, March 10th, 2007, 1:49 pm [General]

We will need several volunteers to step forward to help with various aspects of flight day operations including but not limited to ground station implementation, data collection, public relations and other activities during the flight. To help with the process of organizing these activities we are scheduling a general ARBONET-2 meeting on Saturday March 17th in Bonham, TX following the monthly meeting of the Fannin County ARC. Meeting location is TBD. KC5VXD has taken the action item to help secure a meeting location. All interested parties are invited to attend this meeting – no experience is necessary to participate! We will provide on-the-job training!
